2003-2004 Robot Team

The 2003-2004 Robot Team participated in the FIRST LEGO League 2003 Challenge: Mission Mars.

We competed in the First State FIRST LEGO League Tournament at the University of Delaware on Jan. 24, 2004. We were one of only two all girl teams competing. Our four robot runs earned 199, 140, 207 and 159 points, executing everything we had planned correctly at least once. The research presentation (a skit in which NASA scientists presented plans for a Mars trip to a panel of senators) was very well received. Out of the 34 teams competing, we won second place for Quality of Research. Congratulations to researchers Sam and Krystle and to their research mentor Elizabeth!

2002-2003 Robot Team

In 2002 we entered two teams, the Eskimos and the Peanuts, in the First Lego League 2002 Challenge State Competition in Philadelphia. The theme was City Sights, and the robots had a series of tasks to perform in an urban environment. The teams also had to prepare a research project about how robots can help solve urban problems. If you want to see the 2002 challenge, go to First Lego League 2002. To see pictures of the GigaDivas preparing for the competition, click here.

At the competition, the Eskimos scored a total of 256 points on their two runs and the Peanuts scored a total of 244. Congratulations!!! Both groups averaged much better than the goal of at least 100 points per run that we had set to go to the competition. The Eskimo's first round of 176 points was 9th place out of the 45 teams! The scores show that the hard work really paid off. To see pictures of the GigaDivas at the competition, click here.

Some Members of the
2001 Robot Team
In our first year, the team learned more about the Lego robots and what they can do. We built robots that followed lines, played tag, and even ordered jellybeans from a dispenser and then picked up and delivered the jelly beans. We really didn't like the coconut flavored jelly beans! Then we spent some time working on our own version of the First Lego League 2001 Challenge - Arctic Impact. We rescued scientists (without hurting polar bears), took ice core samples and more.
